Frequently Asked Questions

I am interested in birds but I am not a twitcher, will I still enjoy your bird programmes?

Yes, our bird programmes are suitable for bird lovers of all levels from the complete beginner to the experienced ornithologist. We guarantee you will see wonderful birds in their wild Highland habitats. Our rangers have the local knowledge and enthusiasm to help you get the most out of your stay.

Are your open programmes suitable for all ages?

Yes, we have a policy of environmental education FOR ALL. Our programmes attract all ages and are designed accordingly.

I am 79 and still fairly fit, will I enjoy your expeditions?

Yes, there is no reason at all why you should not enjoy our trips if you are fairly fit. We cover a wide range of Highland habitats, with a diverse mixture of walking, wildlife watching and sites of archaeological and historical interest.

How strenuous are the programmes?

As gentle or strenuous as you would like. Some programmes offer longer walks for those who like to stretch their legs, others can be tailored for short walks and historic sites for example. If you are worried about the suitability of any of our programmes please dont hesitate to contact us for further information.

How big will the groups be?

Our groups are generally quite small (6-12 guests), unless you arrange to come to Aigas as part of a large group - when we can accommodate up to 40 guests. We commonly host several different groups participating in different programmes. If you are interested in bringing a group to Aigas please contact us so that we can discuss your requirements. We offer a good group discount scheme.

The Weather - isn’t it always raining in Scotland?

Scotland enjoys a temperate oceanic climate despite its northerly latitude - Aigas is at 57o 30 North (the same as Hudson Bay). Thanks largely to the North Atlantic Drift which brings warm air and currents up from the Gulf of Mexico and across to us, we enjoy warm summers and relatively mild winters.

In the Highlands the weather can be described as changeable, but don’t be put off! Here on the East coast, we receive no more rain than the driest parts of England. During the summer you can expect an average temperature of around 20 ◦C (68 ◦F) which is perfect for exploring the mountains and glens. So don’t pay too much attention to the rumours, pack a rain coat but don’t forget your sunglasses – you may well need them!
