New to 2018 and timed to match optimum flowering, this week combines gentle walks into the hills and glens to search for orchids, sundews and delicate moorland flowers like milkwort, tormentil and lousewort, as well as specialist rarities such a twin flower and one-flowered wintergreen, or St Olaf’s candlestick as it is sometimes known.
We will spend a day at Loch Fleet, on the east coast, searching of coastal dune flowers such as wild pansies and twinflower. As well as this, we will visit the Nairn Bar, a three mile stretch of white sand and grassy dunes.
Walks in local moorland will reveal the insectivorous sundews and butterwort, milkworts, asphodel and heathers, whilst a variety of orchids can be found on grassland walks in our nearby Glen Cannich. All walks are low level, ranger-led and gentle, however there will be the option to do a high level hike for those who so wish.
Guests will have the opportunity to spend a whole day on the Aigas estate, exploring the moorland on a ranger-led walk up Bad a Chlamhain and a garden tour led by Lady Lister-Kaye.
