Limited to only six places, this is the most exclusive Laurie Campbell photography course. The very small group size ensures close personal attention to your subject matter, technique, field skills and post processing methods.
This course is designed for those who are reasonably familiar with their cameras and are looking for more specialised help, both with specific technical information, and also in developing their fieldcraft skills.
A range of tutorials will include guidance on all aspects of
- Macro photography
- Different uses for electronic flash and triggering systems
- Improvised hide construction and usage.
Most outings will offer opportunities to stalk birds and mammals or use hides targeted at photographing specific species and other techniques which are easier to practice with a smaller group. Participants of this course are invited to bring any existing portable hides or specialist equipment they already own. Should you have specific questions or require any information at all about the Masterclass course then please contact Aigas for Laurie’s contact details.
With a wealth of wildlife and local knowledge, Aigas is well placed to provide extraordinary opportunities for nature photography. A diverse range of other habitats lie within easy travelling distance. Each contains a distinctive range of subjects and an Aigas ranger will be provided to ensure that we may visit locations when conditions are best for photography.
Subjects may include:
- Seasonal landscapes in native woodlands & local glens.
- Runs of salmon leaping up waterfalls.
- Stalking red deer, feral goats and common seals.
- Photographing otters and goosanders in marine or freshwater environments.
- Using hides to photograph massed waders and waterfowl at high-tide roosts.
- Creative landscape and close-up photography.
In the evenings, Laurie will answer questions and give a series of presentations of photographs he has produced from each location in order to help you be prepared and make the most of your visit. Laurie will also show work on a range of other subjects from golden eagles to simple abstract scenes. These meetings are intended to provide an opportunity for group discussion and for Laurie to offer a critique on your work whether it be prints, slides or digital images on CD or laptop computer.
The equipment you own and bring to the workshop may be entirely influenced by the type of subjects you normally photograph. The essentials are that you have a film or digital SLR with some interchangeable lenses, a sturdy tripod and stocks of film of various speeds.
Digital users may require spare memory cards or a portable storage device and perhaps a laptop computer to view images when we are back at the centre. Close-up equipment such as extension tubes or close-up filters are useful if you do not already own a macro lens, and a small reflector and flash unit will be useful for lighting small subjects in the field. A cable release, spare batteries and battery chargers should complete the range of equipment you might need.
One of the most important aspects of the course is to demonstrate how to get the very best from the range of equipment you already own.
Please bring waterproof outdoor footwear, dark waterproofs and plastic refuse sacks for kneeling on.
