Beaver Diary – A New Dam?

13 September 2010

On a recent walk around the loch to monitor the beaver habitat,I came across this new construction. Faith said that during a hide visit she had noticed the beavers aligning sticks and logs in straight lines in this particular area and she wondered if this could be a new dam. On closer inspection it almost looks like the start of a dam, due to the build up and shape of the mud along with the alignment of the wood.

We will definitely keep an eye on this construction and see if the beavers do anymore work to it during the autumn months, as that is the time of year that beavers tend to do a majority of their building and repairing.
