a wonderful nature change of pace I participated in Aigas Wildlife Week which was a week full of nature at Aigas Field House and surrounding areas. I was on an extended visit to Scotland with a lot of history and urban visiting, so this mental break and green surrounding was appreciated. The Rangers work hard to cover all interests and the other guests can bring welcome knowledge and experience as well. Though the day trips were occasionally long, the pace was comfortable and time was allowed to enjoy the scenery. I am a birder, so this was a better fit than some bird-centric trips that are just 'tick the sighting and drive off'. I appreciated the fact there is no single supplement for a private cabin room and that dietary needs are well cared for. We had both gluten-free and vegetarian guests and it was often difficult to tell the special meal from the normal menu. It was all very tasty and plentiful. Breakfast is a cold buffet (with hot oatmeal)! Lunch typically a pack a bag buffet, and dinner a full served meal. Cabins are several bedrooms arranged around a common living room and kitchen. They are slightly spread out, but all easily walkable to the main house. They are well heated with individual radiators. The grounds are extensive with trails, gardens and viewing hides and easily manageable to visit in your down time. There are numerous planned weeks or long weekend programs as well as a bed and breakfast, or short let accommodations. My week at Aigas was a real treat for me and will be one of my Scotland highlights.

Accommodation nestled in the woodland. Food homely and tasty. Guides...just brilliant and so knowledgeable. Ethos ...positive enthusiasm in involving all in nature and the love of the landscape. Just loved our stay and John, with his dry sense of humour & drive to make a difference, and Lucy, kind helpful and very organised.....I'd definitely recommend a stay to all interested in nature.

Walking and Wildlife week I am so please that I finally got to stay at Aigas Field Centre. I did the Walking and Wildlife week which was a wonderful experience. There is a lot of wildlife on the estate including badgers, deer, pine martens and Scottish wildcats which are part of a breeding programme. We saw birds and other wildlife on the walks too.Sir John, Lady Lucy and their daughter Hermione were great hosts and were extremely hospitable. Everything is very organised in terms of meal timings and excursions. They will cater for different diets. The staff do a fantastic job and are on top of everything.The rangers are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic - it was a pleasure spending time with them. I would highly recommend staying at Aigas Field Centre - other guests seemed very happy with their experiences too. Many of them had been several times before. I hope to visit again in the future.

Amazing place and garden is looked after very well

I tried a Naturedays Open House recently and it's *exactly* what I've been trying to create out of the wooded spaces near where I live. But someone's already done it (Fin, as far as I can tell - based on my own experience and from what other home-edding parents have told me about them). Its pedagogy is something I've been trying to find for years (both in the Highlands and Central Belt) and I'm so happy that it exists here - if Fin ran this programme more regularly (essentially a forest school for older kids, not just nursery), we'd be scrambling to sign up.

Wonderful outdoor experience of the Scottish Highlands. Scenery was beautiful; mountains, farm land, multiple lochs, streams and waterfall. We toured various historic sites close to Aigas in addition to walks around the property. Saw some wildlife (3 types of deer), small dolphins, various shore birds, raptors and red squirrels. At Aigas went to their hides ( blinds) to view animals. Saw a pine marten and Scottish Wild Cat. They are part of a large conservation program working to restore the wild cat population in the wild. A badger was seen on another night in the hide. The Aigas Rangers lead the day trips and other activities. All are very well educated as they explain historical events and sites as well as telling us about the natural environment and various plants and animals. All are very nice and able to answer questions. Meals were all at Aigas for the week I stayed and were very good.

Amazing! Comfortable. Beautiful surroundings. It’s almost impossible to put in words the experience of a week at Aigas.

Perfect place for a peaceful holiday, living in a turfed roof log cabin and dining in the beautiful Aigas House. The habitats for the wide variety of flora and fauna were easy to access. Hides provided successful viewing of badger, pine martin, wild cat and beaver and birds galore. Lots of photographic opportunities. The meals were five star. The Rangers are all very knowledgeable, helpful and good drivers. Sir John and Lady Lucy's hospitality and organisation is wonderful. The Naturedays at Aigas have a great programme for helping children understand all about the diversity of wildlife. I can certainly recommend choosing an Aigas Wildlife experience for a holiday experience to remember. Helen Taylor

Staying a week at Aigas - with its grounds, rangers, and Sir John and Lady Lucy - is among the most exceptional of my many travel experiences. Think wildlife refuge and rewilding programs rolled into a refurbished Victorian estate led by Sir John Lister-Kaye, well known in the naturalist and conservation circles for his pioneering work. I stayed as part of an educational tour group, and enjoyed each day fully. Through field trips, hikes, and events, I learned a great deal about Scotland's rich history and current efforts to restore biodiversity to the country. The rangers who led our trips were knowledgeable, energetic, and enthusiastic. The modest accommodations adjacent to the estate house were clean and comfortable, with big windows for spotting red squirrels and bird life. The food was creative and fabulous, served in a spectacular dining hall. The garden and grounds were breathtaking. Sir John and Lady Lucy and Hermione were gracious hosts, eager that their guests enjoyed their stay. Make sure to look closely at the center's website, because Aigas is not open to the public. Only to guests who have signed up for its various programs. I'm eyeing the list now for another adventure. Highly recommended.
