Programmes By Date - Aigas Field Centre

I visited Aigas on a Road Scholar program, called Walking in the Scottish Highlands. During our week of field trips guided by knowledgeable and friendly rangers, I gained insight into the cultural and natural history of the Highlands. We studied the floral, fauna, geology and history while hiking on the property as well as on field trips across the Highlands and also learned about forestry and ecological restoration. Our hosts shared their home graciously with us, the food was delicious, the cottages very comfortable and quiet and I enjoyed the freedom of just walking about the grounds birding and botanizing on my own. We had a brilliant 4 days at Aigas Field Centre in September. We had booked via the tailormade option, and enjoyed having some time to ourselves to explore the estate and spend hours in the hides (the Pinewood was particularly good for red squirrels, and we took some great photos) but also had excellent safaris with Aigas's rangers. We went in search of raft spiders and feral goats on one trip, with great photographic opportunities at a waterfall with plenty of fungi and wood ant nests to macro, and another afternoon did a slow walk around the Aigas lake, looking at insects and fungi. The rangers' knowledge and enthusiasm was excellent and made our stay very enjoyable. Our thanks also to Sir John and Lady Lucy Lister-Kaye, for some lovely rhino-related conversations and great care with my complicated dietary restrictions. The rooms are simple but exactly what's needed - warm, clean and comfortable - after long days out in search of otters and pine martens. We'll visit again, I am sure.

We recently spent 2 nights at Aigas, while driving through Scotland. We were not with a tour group. Aigas is truly a special, magical place. The love invested into Aigas is obvious. The house itself is a grand country estate, but also a well loved home where many generations have lived. The dinners in the Grand Hall were memorable. I am a picky eater.....if the menu was something I don't care for, the kitchen made me a delicious alternative. Aigas is especially unique because you are a guest at a grand family home. The hosts and staff ensure that every guest is treated like family. Let them know what you want to see/do, and they will make it happen. Highly recommended.

We recently spent 2 nights at Aigas, while driving through Scotland. We were not with a tour group. Aigas is truly a special, magical place. The love invested into Aigas is obvious. The house itself is a grand country estate, but also a well loved home where many generations have lived. The dinners in the Grand Hall were memorable. I am a picky eater.....if the menu was something I don't care for, the kitchen made me a delicious alternative. Aigas is especially unique because you are a guest at a grand family home. The hosts and staff ensure that every guest is treated like family. Let them know what you want to see/do, and they will make it happen. Highly recommended.
