Walking and Wildlife

More and more of our guests express the desire for longer walks in the stunning surrounding scenery. We are now offering more walking programmes than ever before.

Striding out on long but low level walks, we will explore coastlines and rivers, through glens and around lochs. We will avoid all but gentle and short inclines. Destinations may include the remarkable spit of Chanonry Point where bottlenose dolphins are often seen, the shores of Loch Fleet or the remnant ancient Caledonian pine forest in Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, averaging five miles per day.

Each day is led by an Aigas ranger. With such a variety of habitats covered, the species list will be rich and varied, from waders and sea ducks, seals dolphins and otters to golden eagles, ringed ouzel, red and roe deer and pine martens, as well as a myriad of botany and wonderful sweeping scenery.

On every Walking and Wildlife week, guests will be offered at least one high level hike. Of course, if you want to take a day off, there is also plenty to see and do on the Aigas estate.

Example day: Glen Affric National Nature Reserve

After a short drive this route takes us into the mountains of Glen Affric on a lovely trail that leads through uplifting scenery. With views of a chain of 3000+ ft mountains, and passing through remnants of ancient Caledonian pine trees, this walk is a highlight.

Potential for lots of wildlife, including osprey, golden eagle, merlin, red deer, crested tit, crossbills, black-throated divers & various forest and moorland flora. This walk is roughly five miles.
