Wildflowers and Gardens

Summer is upon us and the Highlands are in bloom. This exciting programme combines our stunning wildflowers which often flower well into July, found in equally stunning locations, and the Highland’s unique and varied gardens. We will explore the east coast at Loch Fleet for coastal dune flowers, such as wild pansies and twinflower, the open moorland for asphodel and heathers and the grasslands of Glen Affric or Glen Cannich for a suite of wild orchids. The blooming times vary from year to year, but with the knowledge of elusive local spots, our rangers will ensure that you won’t miss an opportunity to see the best of what nature has on offer at this bountiful time of the year.

We will visit two very different private gardens on the Black Isle, where the owners will lead a tour, and travel to the west coast to visit Inverewe Gardens, Dundonnell House and Sue Pomeroy’s own garden 2 Durnamuck. Included are also visits at some small private gardens, with special permission from the owners, organised by Lucy Lister-Kaye through her contacts as District Organiser of the Highlands for Scotland’s Gardens.
