Raptor Week – Eagles, Hawks and Harriers

This week will focus on finding the Highlands’ Birds of Prey. We will visit a range of habitats, each one suited to a specific array of raptors. This week-long experience will take you from the rugged west coast to the huge expanses of blanket bog in the north, looking for species such as white-tailed eagle, hen harrier and, of course, the iconic golden eagle. We will also spend time closer to home, exploring the Aigas estate and neighbouring glens. Evening walks can be led around the estate in search of tawny and barn owl, and you will have the opportunity to visit our raptor hide and tree-top hides which overlooks a moorland feeding station where red kites and buzzards are regularly seen.
We will focus on spending plenty of time out of the vehicles, searching at specific locations for birds of prey. The Swarovski scopes provided each day along with Swarovski binoculars available to hire will ensure you get the best views possible of eagles circling high across the hills or sparrowhawks quietly perching amongst the trees. All you will need is a keen eye and some patience.
Raptors we aim to see:
Golden eagle, white-tailed eagle, hen harrier, osprey, red kite, peregrine falcon, kestrel, merlin, sparrowhawk, goshawk, buzzard, tawny owl and barn owl
