Neville Kilkenny

Fascinating Fungi Group Leader

Neville is a consultant mycologist and fungal ecologist who will lead our Fascinating Fungi programme in 2026.

Having studied mycology at The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh under the guidance of prof. Roy Watling 18 years ago, he retains links as a Research Associate and continues to run workshops and forays for the Garden.

Neville’s clients include The James Hutton Institute, NatureScot, Natural England, and RSPB. He is a member of the British Mycological Society, The Fungus Conservation Trust, and an honorary life member of The Danish Mycological Society. Working as a freelance mycologist, with a focus on conservation and understanding the diversity and ecological needs of fungi, Neville is keen to share his passion for these incredible organisms and educate people about their role in ecosystems and everyday life.
