Programmes By Date - Aigas Field Centre

I'd met many people that said how wonderful Aigas was and this October I experienced it for myself and wasn't disappointed. From the first greeting at the station to the last goodbye I had nothing but praise for all the staff and our 'experts', as they say in the brochure nothing is too much trouble, and it wasn't. The food was fabulous and I was presented with a cake. My highlights were seeing a pine marten for the first time and being within a few feet of a stag with a hind and a yearling but there were many more wonderful birds and animals on our weeks journey. Clearly the result of many years planning, the courses at Aigas are well-honed to give you insight into the often secret side of British wildlife. The ranger staff are knowledgable and charming, the setting fabulous and the house and kitchen a delight. The size of the groups - ours was 7 people - gives the chance to get to know each other well, and we enjoyed each other's company as a bonus. I undertook quite a bit of extra-curricular activity on some early morning outings, and was encouraged and surported in this by the staff.

Clearly the result of many years planning, the courses at Aigas are well-honed to give you insight into the often secret side of British wildlife. The ranger staff are knowledgable and charming, the setting fabulous and the house and kitchen a delight. During our week of field trips guided by knowledgeable and friendly rangers, I gained insight into the cultural and natural history of the Highlands. We studied the floral, fauna, geology and history while hiking on the property as well as on field trips across the Highlands and also learned about forestry and ecological restoration. Our hosts shared their home graciously with us, the food was delicious, the cottages very comfortable and quiet and I enjoyed the freedom of just walking about the grounds birding and botanizing on my own.
