Programmes By Date - Aigas Field Centre

This is an outstanding center for the exploration of the wildlife of the highland. The rangers that escort the parties out daily are very knowledgable and well versed in their roles. To top this there is comfortable accommodation and stunningly good food. The location has its own Loch with beavers and Highland wildcats. Both are part of a major conservation projects to save and nurture these species. The whole adventure is a credit to Sir John Lister-Kaye and Lady Lucy Lister-Kaye. I will return next year.

My sister and I joined the Highland House Party on the last week of the 2011 programme. Although the weather was wet and windy, the warmth of the hospitality was superb. The 7 young rangers were outstanding - kind, caring, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna of the area. Our days were full and varied, and the food - all locally sourced - was excellent. When we left we felt that we had become part of the Lister-Kaye family! We can't wait to return. The ceilidh on the final evening just rubber-stamped' a truly memorable week. I am now re-reading Sir John's books, and have already used some of Lady Lucy's recipes!

The 7 young rangers were outstanding - kind, caring, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna of the area. Our days were full and varied, and the food - all locally sourced - was excellent. When we left we felt that we had become part of the Lister-Kaye family! We can't wait to return. Went to Uist with the Aigas Field Center. If you enjoy bird watching, walking, great food and comfortable accommodations, you need to check out this trip. Calum, Louis, and Martyn were fantastic guides. The group saw 93 species of birds, 7 mammals, and 10 invertebrates. I’m new to birding, so to be honest, I actually was only able to identify about half the birds (but not from the lack of the rangers and fellow travelers trying to help me.) To get the full benefit on the walks, I would highly recommend renting a good pair of binoculars from Aigas if you don’t have some. The trip isn’t just about nature. You will also visit historic sites and learn about living on Uist.

I’m new to birding, so to be honest, I actually was only able to identify about half the birds (but not from the lack of the rangers and fellow travelers trying to help me.)
