Programmes By Date - Aigas Field Centre

I stayed at Aigas for five days with my daughter and we have never ever seen so much wildlife in such a short space of time. We got up early to visit the beaver before he went home to bed and after dinner we went to the hide to watch the pine martens. On top of that the rangers took us for walks and tours and a boat trip on the Moray Firth. The boat trip was the highlight of the week as we were lucky enough to not only see bottle-nosed dolphins leaping out of the water but also 6 basking sharks around the rib and swimming under us, there were another 4-5 away in the distance. It was an awesome experience. The staff at the Centre were very friendly and helpful and Sir John and Lady Lucy were the most hospitable hosts. The food was amazing. Warwick says that nothing is too much trouble and they certainly lived up to that claim. Try it for yourself you won't regret it. It is suitable for anyone even if they are on their own as you soon make friends.

A packed lunch is supplied for the field trips and hot beverages are taken in the mini buses. The evening meal is a set meal and changed daily, there are alternatives and flexabilityfor those who have dietary needs. The house also has a common room for daily meetings coffee and tea, where most information can be obtained. There is also a natural history library and gift shop. The programme was flexible and allowed the group to stretch our legs on the hills and in the valleys around the locality. All walks were escorted by one or two rangers who had a keen eye for spotting wildlife and were very knowledgeable on local history, geology and the various branches of ecology they had studied. The wildlife we spotted was outstanding, well worth the visit. The local wild flowers were in bloom and several rare species were pointed out. A small lake is situated in the grounds along with hides in several locations, about 10 minutes walk from the cabins. We sat here and watch a Beaver for 30 minutes, something I never thought I would see in the UK. Also Pine martins and Red Squirrels. A great holiday with a lot packed in. It is well worth looking at the extensive programme on the web site to see which weeks activity best suits. The hosts and staff are wonderful, they cannot do enough to make your stay such a memorable experience.

We saw a great deal of the Highlands, and learned about birds, insects, trees, the rivers, history, the large animals,lochs, and I got to see a pine martin feeding at night in the Centre. It is a magical place with knowledgeable, intelligent, well-spoken young people who know their stuff. If they don't know, they will find out, and get back to you. As our group was so small, they could give us time for our many questions! Lady Lucy produced incredible meals for the Great Hall, and conversations were always interesting. Our cabin was comfy, clean, and welcoming, with a great hot shower. They will even do your laundry! This is a marvelous place for those who love Nature, and enjoy walking (ours were not especially taxing) and want to learn about and see some of the Highlands of Scotland! They have accommodations for all sorts of groups or families. Their standards are very high!

It is a magical place with knowledgeable, intelligent, well-spoken young people who know their stuff. If they don't know, they will find out, and get back to you. As our group was so small, they could give us time for our many questions! Lady Lucy produced incredible meals for the Great Hall, and conversations were always interesting.
